Exam clock
Project the time, the time remaining and the finish time of each group of candidates. Extra time is calculated for you. The “Timer” tab adds a visual classroom timer with phase sequences. Free, no sign-up, nothing is sent to a server.
How does it work?
- Set up the exam in the “Exams” panel: name, duration and start time. Pick a preset (1 h, 1 h 30, 2 h…) to go faster.
- Add one line per group or per candidate with access arrangements: +25%, +33%, +50%, any percentage or a number of minutes. The finish time of each line is calculated automatically.
- Start the exam now or at the planned time. If something happens, the general pause stops every countdown and moves the finish times. An individual pause (rest break, supervised exit) only moves that line.
- Project it in full screen, or open the display in a second window for the projector and keep the controls on your own screen.
- The exam log records start, pause, resume and finish times: handy for the incident report.
The visual classroom timer
The Timer tab shows a coloured disc that shrinks as time passes: pupils see at a glance how much time is left, even from the back of the room and without reading a clock.
- One-click durations: 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20 or 30 minutes, or any duration (“7:30”).
- Phase sequences: for example 5 min of individual thinking, 10 min of group work, then 5 min of sharing. Each phase has its own name and colour, and they run one after another. Save your sequences for the next lesson.
- Gentle signal: soft sound and flashing screen at the end of each phase, adjustable warning (“2 min left”).
- No numbers for younger pupils: only the disc is shown. The 60-minute dial works like a kitchen timer.
How is extra time calculated?
Extra time is a share of the exam duration added on top of it: 25% of 2 hours is 30 minutes. By default, the tool rounds the extra time up to the next minute.
| Exam duration | +25% | +33% (one third) | +50% |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 min | +8 min (38 min) | +10 min (40 min) | +15 min (45 min) |
| 1 h | +15 min (1 h 15) | +20 min (1 h 20) | +30 min (1 h 30) |
| 1 h 30 | +23 min (1 h 53) | +30 min (2 h) | +45 min (2 h 15) |
| 2 h | +30 min (2 h 30) | +40 min (2 h 40) | +1 h (3 h) |
| 3 h | +45 min (3 h 45) | +1 h (4 h) | +1 h 30 (4 h 30) |
Always follow the rules of your exam board for access arrangements and rest breaks.
What if the page reloads during the exam?
Nothing is lost. The countdowns are based on the computer's clock, not on an internal counter: after a reload, sleep mode or a tab change, the time shown stays exact. During the exam, the tool also keeps the screen awake when the browser allows it.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. Settings, line names and the log stay in your browser. To protect candidates' privacy, use a desk number or a group name rather than a name.
Example: a 2-hour exam with access arrangements
Start at 8:00, duration 2 h: planned end 10:00. Add one line per arrangement:
- One-third extra time (+1/3): 2 h + 40 min, ends at 10:40.
- 25% extra time (+1/4): 2 h + 30 min, ends at 10:30.
- 50% extra time (+1/2): 2 h + 1 h, ends at 11:00.
If a fire alarm stops the exam for 10 minutes, the global pause halts every countdown and shifts all end times. If one candidate leaves for a medical reason, the individual pause only shifts their line.
Projecting the screen
- Go full screen and check readability from the back of the room before candidates arrive.
- Show the exam name, current time and each group's end time: candidates no longer need to ask how long is left.
- Turn off the computer's sleep mode and plug it in.
- For several exams in the same room (mock exams), set them all up in advance from a template.
The visual timer in class
The “Timer” tab shows a coloured disc that empties: students, even young ones, see time passing without reading a clock. Phase sequences chain several steps, for example:
- 5 min individual thinking (blue), 10 min group work (green), 5 min sharing (orange);
- a carousel activity: 4 × 12 minutes with station changes;
- a debate: 3 min per speaker, with a 1-minute warning before the end.
Save your sequences to reuse them from lesson to lesson; a soft sound and a flash mark the end of each phase.
Good to know
Access arrangements (extra time, a scribe, a separate room) are granted by the exam authority on medical advice: the tool applies the extra time you enter, it does not decide it. Nothing is sent: the screen works offline once the page has loaded. To prepare the paper itself, see the MCQ generator.
