Expense splitter

Record who paid for what on a weekend, a holiday or in a flatshare: the tool works out balances and the fewest repayments needed. No account or sign-up: share the group with a link or a QR code.

How do you share a group without an account?

The whole group (people and expenses) is compressed into the share link. Everyone opens the link, adds their expenses on their phone, then sends the link back to the chat. Opening a link for a group you already have merges both versions: new expenses are added, an edited expense keeps its latest version, a deleted expense doesn't come back. Nothing is stored on a server.

How are repayments calculated?

Each person's balance is what they paid minus their share of the expenses. The tool then pairs the biggest debtors with the biggest creditors to keep transfers to a minimum. Amounts are exact to the cent; when an expense doesn't divide evenly, leftover cents are shared out fairly.

Is my data private?

Yes: groups are kept in your browser and only travel in the links you send yourself. Export the group to a file to keep it after the trip.

Example: a weekend for three

  1. Create the group “Lake District weekend” and add Leah, Hugo and Sarah.
  2. Leah pays for groceries (84) for everyone; Hugo pays for fuel (60), only for Hugo and Sarah who took the car; Sarah pays for dinner (10.01) for everyone.
  3. Balances appear: Leah paid 84 for a share of 31.34, so she is owed 52.66; Hugo owes 1.34; Sarah owes 51.32.
  4. Two transfers are enough: Sarah → Leah 51.32 and Hugo → Leah 1.34. Click “Mark as paid” once each transfer is done.

Dinner's 10.01 can't be split exactly three ways: two people pay 3.34 and one 3.33, so the total is right to the cent.

Good habits

Record expenses on the day with a clear label (“Saturday supermarket”): settling up at the end then takes two minutes. One currency per group; when travelling abroad, convert at your bank's rate. Print or export the summary before deleting the group.
