Create your cards to generate a ready-to-use .apkg file.
This tool uses open-source software: KaTeX, mhchem, JSZip, sql.js, lamejs (LAME), Tailwind CSS and Font Awesome. Credits · licence texts.
How to use it
- Choose the card type: classic question/answer, or cloze deletion (a sentence with one or more hidden parts).
- Write the front and back. The live preview shows the card as it will look in Anki. Helpers insert a formula, a chemical equation or a table without syntax errors.
- Add media: images, sounds and videos are bundled in the deck.
- Tag your cards (chapter, difficulty…) so you can filter them in Anki later.
- Download the .apkg deck and open it: Anki imports it directly, media included.
Card examples
- Maths: “Derivative of
\ln(u)?” →\frac{u'}{u}. Formulas are written in LaTeX and rendered by KaTeX;\displaystyle,\leqslantand\geqslantare applied automatically for clean output. - Chemistry: “Combustion of methane” →
\ce{CH4 + 2 O2 -> CO2 + 2 H2O}, using the mhchem extension. - Languages: a word on the front, its translation and a pronunciation audio file on the back.
- Cloze: “The capital of Australia is {{c1::Canberra}}” makes a card that hides the answer.
- Computing: a code snippet on the front, its output on the back.
Writing good cards
- One idea per card: a card asking three things fails as soon as you forget one. Three short cards work better.
- Ask a real, precise question with only one acceptable answer.
- Use cloze cards for definitions: you keep the sentence's context.
- Add a picture or diagram when you can: what you visualise sticks better.
- Make the cards yourself from your notes: rephrasing is already part of learning.
Formats and compatibility
The .apkg file is a complete Anki deck, compatible with Anki desktop, AnkiWeb, AnkiDroid and AnkiMobile. For audio and video, prefer MP3 and MP4, the best-supported formats everywhere. A CSV export (with a zip of the media) is also available for other software. To review without installing Anki, open the deck in Mini-Anki; to bring cards over from Quizlet, use Quizlet to Anki.
