Mini-Anki, study your Anki decks online
Import an Anki deck or a card spreadsheet and study it with spaced repetition, on a computer or a phone. Free, no sign-up: your cards stay in your browser.
My decks
Session complete! 🎉
How does it work?
- Import a deck: in Anki, File › Export… as “Anki Deck Package (.apkg)”, with “Include media” ticked.
Decks from recent Anki versions (2.1.50 and later) and older ones are supported, as well as
.colpkgbackups. - Study: “Study” shows today's due cards, then new ones; “All” replays the whole deck, 🔀 in random order.
- Rate each answer: Again (the card comes back in the session), Hard, Good or Easy. The delay before the next review is shown under each button (SM-2 style spaced repetition).
Supported formats
- .apkg / .colpkg: cards are built from the deck's note types (several fields, front/back, reversed cards,
cloze,
{{hint:…}}, furigana), with the deck's images, sounds and videos. - .txt / .csv / .tsv: one card per line, front then back (then tags), separated by a tab,
a semicolon or a comma; quoted fields may contain line breaks. Anki “Notes in Plain Text” exports
(
#separator:,#html:… headers) are recognised. - Media for a text file: select them together with the file, or put everything in a .zip.
You can also add some later with the deck's 🖼 button. In cards:
<img src="cat.jpg">,[sound:word.mp3],[sound:clip.mp4]or<video src="clip.webm">. - Playable formats: PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, SVG, AVIF images; MP3, OGG/Opus, WAV, M4A/AAC, FLAC sounds; MP4 (H.264), WebM, OGV videos (MOV and MKV depending on the browser).
- Formulas:
\(…\),\[…\],[$]…[/$],[latex]…[/latex],$…$and chemistry\ce{H2O}. - Cloze:
{{c1::answer}}or{{c1::answer::hint}}; each cloze number makes one card.
Keyboard shortcuts
- Space or Enter: show the answer (then “Good” with Space)
- 1 Again · 2 Hard · 3 Good · 4 Easy
- S shuffle · F flag the card · Esc back to decks
Your data
Everything happens in your browser: decks, media and progress are saved on your device (IndexedDB) and never sent to a server. Clearing the site's data in your browser also deletes the decks. Deck-specific styling (note type CSS) and any scripts they contain are not applied.
Mini-Anki uses KaTeX, JSZip, sql.js and fzstd, open-source software: see the credits.
A typical session in 4 steps
- Import your deck (.apkg exported from Anki with media, or a plain text or spreadsheet file). It stays in this device's browser.
- Click “Review”: cards due today come first, then new ones.
- Try to answer in your head before flipping the card (Space), then rate yourself honestly with keys 1 to 4.
- Stop at the end of the session: spaced repetition works with short daily sessions, not marathons.
What do the four buttons mean?
- Again (1): you didn't know. The card comes back in the same session and its interval resets.
- Hard (2): found with effort; the interval grows a little.
- Good (3): the normal answer when you know it. The interval is multiplied (1 day, then about 3, 7, 18 days…).
- Easy (4): instant and effortless; the card is spaced out much more.
The planned delay appears under each button. The schedule is based on the SM-2 algorithm that Anki grew from: each card has its own ease factor, which drops when you fail it and rises when it is easy.
When to use Mini-Anki instead of Anki?
- On a computer where you can't install anything (library, classroom, work laptop).
- To try out a deck you received before importing it into your collection.
- On iPhone, without buying AnkiMobile, for occasional review.
- For teachers: project a deck in class and have students answer.
For long-term use, Anki is more complete (sync, detailed statistics, advanced settings). Mini-Anki reads the same format, so you can switch between them.
Good to know
- Progress is saved in this browser: clearing the site's data also clears your review history. Re-import the deck if needed.
- Formulas (LaTeX,
\ce{}chemistry), cloze cards and media display as in Anki. - To make your own cards, use the Anki card generator; to bring over a Quizlet set, Quizlet to Anki.
